Security Operatives storm Chairman Wontumi’s house [Listen]

-

A joint team of National Security operatives and policemen stormed the residence of Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

His aide, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, confirmed the development in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

He said the heavily armed operatives, comprising about 23 policemen, arrived at the house around 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Oheneba confirmed that Chairman Wontumi was present with his wife and a domestic helper when they arrived, creating tension.

He noted that the motive behind the operation remains unclear; however, Chairman Wontumi had been invited by the police a few days earlier.

“Some of them were masked and they attempted to break into the house. On Monday, we received a letter at Wontumi Radio in Kumasi for Chairman to appear for questioning as part of investigations into the Akonta mining issue. He assured that he will honour the invitation on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. because the letter was served in Kumasi, but he has been asked to come to Accra,” he stated.

Oheneba said that although Wontumi initially gave his assurance, he later received a call from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to arrange a meeting for Wednesday, May 21, 2025 — but no one showed up.

“This operation has therefore come as a surprise because all parties are aware an agreement has been reached, so they are the only ones who can explain the motive for the operation,” he noted.

The aide further stated that after a series of deliberations, the majority of the security operatives left, but six still remained.

“For those of us close to him, we know what is happening and are not shaken, but party members are agitated and some even trooped to the house,” he added.

This follows the dawn arrest of NPP member Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, which has raised concerns among the party’s rank and file.
