A security analyst, Samuel Nana Appiah, has applauded the New Force Movement for its decisive response following a violent incident involving a member of its private security team at a funeral in Asante Mampong.
The altercation occurred on June 7, 2025, during the burial rites of the late Mamponghene and Krontihene of Asanteman, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
A video that surfaced online showed Adu Acheampong, a member of the private security detail for New Force’s 2024 presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, assaulting an individual who attempted to approach his boss.
In response, the New Force Movement promptly suspended Acheampong. In a statement signed by General Secretary Charles Yomekpe, the Movement described the incident as “regrettable,” condemned the use of excessive force, and confirmed that Acheampong would undergo a comprehensive anger management program. He has since issued an unqualified apology to the victim.
Speaking to Adom News on the matter, security analyst Samuel Nana Appiah commended the swift disciplinary action and emphasized the urgent need for regulation in the private security industry, particularly among those offering VIP protection services.
“The New Force Movement took the right step by suspending the bodyguard involved,” Mr. Appiah said.
“However, this incident highlights a broader issue. There must be stricter standards and regulatory oversight for individuals providing close protection. Politicians, pastors, business leaders—everyone using private security—must ensure that their personnel are professionally certified and trained by recognized institutions.”
Mr. Appiah further called on the Ministry of the Interior and other relevant security agencies to establish a regulatory framework to oversee the recruitment and certification of private security operatives.
“It’s time for government to step in and regulate bodyguard services,” he urged.
