The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has announced that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has completed 3,001 projects in the education sector since 2017.
Speaking during the third edition of Adom TV’s Badwam Sectorial Debate held at the Accra Digital Center on Friday, Rev Ntim Fordjour stated that these include legacy projects from previous administrations and new initiatives across various levels of education.
He highlighted that 1,561 of these projects were completed in the basic education sector, 1,267 in Senior High Schools (SHS), 16 E-blocks, 2 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers, 153 in tertiary institutions, and 2 model schools.
Additionally, 1,827 legacy projects were completed, with funding sourced from GETFund.
The Deputy Minister noted that, the government initiated 2,460 projects using GETFund across all 16 regions, with 1,256 projects in basic schools, 1,116 in secondary schools, 9 model schools, 5 TVET centers, and 74 in tertiary institutions.
“We utilize various streams of funding to support education infrastructure, and these statistics are related to the Get Fund. We initiated 2,460 projects across all 16 regions using the Get Fund. Specifically, we initiated 1,256 projects for basic schools, 1,116 projects for secondary schools, 9 model schools, 5 TVET centers, and 74 tertiary institutions.”
He further stressed that the government has supplied 2,718 vehicles to various educational institutions nationwide and distributed 1,500 motorbikes to agencies under the Ministry of Education between 2019 and 2020.
In terms of resources for students and teachers, 677,470 pieces of furniture were distributed to basic and secondary institutions.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour also highlighted the “One Teacher, One Laptop” initiative, funded 70% by the Government of Ghana through GETFund, which has provided 350,000 laptops to teachers across the country.
“We have been able to supply 2718 vehicles to various institutions across the country. Additionally, 1500 motorbikes have been distributed to various agencies under the Ministry of Education. There were 1470 furniture items distributed to basic and secondary institutions. The Government of Ghana, through GETFund, funds 70% of the “One Teacher One Laptop” initiative, which aims to provide 350,000 laptops to Ghanaian teachers.”
