The Ashanti Regional President of the Scrap Dealers Association, Abdulai Jagala, has disclosed that the association is planning to introduce identification cards for its members to help curb rising cases of false accusations and physical attacks.

According to him, members of the association continue to suffer attacks due to the wrongful accusations in various communities.

Speaking to Adom News reporter Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, he clarified that scrap dealers are not criminals, as widely perceived, but rather victims of a growing negative public image that has led to frequent harassment and attacks while carrying out their work.

“Over the years, genuine scrap dealers have suffered several attacks, with some members killed and others injured. To prevent these unfortunate incidents, we are introducing ID cards to distinguish our members from impostors,” he stated.

Mr. Jagala further noted that the recent attack on some members at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District was both unnecessary and avoidable, stressing that such incidents could have been prevented if the identification system had been in place.

He added that no arrests have been made in connection with the mob action, describing the situation as unfair.
