Rap icon Sarkodie has sparked widespread conversation after expressing support for former President John Dramani Mahama’s call for an economic revolution in Africa.
Sarkodie, who has long been perceived as critical of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), took to social media to declare his support for Mahama’s anti-colonialism initiative.
This statement came shortly after Mahama delivered a powerful speech advocating for Africa to take control of its natural resources, referencing historical exploitation during the colonial and neo-colonial eras.
In his address, Mahama noted the continent’s readiness— with adequate human capital, technological capabilities, and global access to finance— to manage its resources without relying on foreign concessions.
“We’ve developed the core of human resources… we have the technology… the capital is available,” Mahama said, urging a shift from foreign exploitation to local ownership and benefit.
Sarkodie’s endorsement of Mahama’s message came as a surprise to many, particularly given his previous songs and statements that criticized the NDC’s governance, including the Dumsor era under Mahama’s presidency.
His tweet, however, suggests a possible shift in focus and support for national interest and economic sovereignty over partisan politics.
The rapper’s comment has triggered mixed reactions online, with some praising his objectivity and others questioning his political alignment.
