Sanja Nanja vows to ensure peace in Akokoa and Amantin following disturbances

The Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin, Sanja Nanja, has assured residents of Akokoa and Amantin that swift and coordinated measures are being taken to restore calm and maintain peace following a violent incident believed to be linked to a land dispute.

The assurance follows an attack on Sunday, September 9, 2025, when unidentified masked individuals allegedly set fire to the house of the Krontihene of Akokoa using petrol. The arson is suspected to have stemmed from an ongoing disagreement over land in the area.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Nanja condemned the act and appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm and allow due process to prevail.

“Peace is crucial for the development and progress of our communities. I am urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands,” he stressed.

He emphasized that land disputes should be resolved through the courts rather than violence, adding that he is working closely with local security agencies and other stakeholders to prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atebubu-Amantin, Maswud Musah Ayarba, disclosed that the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has already intervened.

“We have taken swift action through the Municipal Security Council to de-escalate tensions and restore peace. Revenge is not a solution, and we will not allow the situation to spiral out of control,” the MCE said.

He explained that the conflict stems from a long-standing disagreement over a parcel of land but assured residents that authorities are on top of the situation.

Both the MP and MCE have called on traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the community.
