Sampa clashes: IGP visits injured officer, deploys reinforcement teams [Photos]

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to check on a police officer critically injured during the recent violent clashes between two rival groups at Sampa in the Bono Region.

In an earlier statement, the police said eight officers sustained injuries after their patrol vehicle came under heavy gunfire while responding to the disturbances.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the road into a ditch during the attack.

Seven of the officers were treated and discharged, while one was transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care. Police officials confirmed that the officer is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.

In response to the incident, the IGP has dispatched a high-powered delegation made up of members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to Sampa to assess the security situation and ensure the welfare of personnel deployed in the area.

The delegation will also engage with officers on the ground, the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and youth groups in Sampa to help restore calm and promote lasting peace.

Meanwhile, additional reinforcement teams from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been deployed to strengthen security and maintain law and order in Sampa and its surrounding communities.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to protect lives and property while working with local stakeholders to bring a permanent resolution to the conflict.
