The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once again in 2028.
Apart from the official declaration of support, Mr Awuku has also asked for spiritual support for the former Vice President of Ghana, asking that the spirits of the party’s forebears guide and protect Dr. Bawumia in his quest to lead the NPP.
In a Facebook post endorsing the 2024 presidential candidate of the MPP, Mr Awuku wrote:
“As the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom), an offshoot of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia Tradition, enters a critical phase in its quest to recapture power in 2028, May the Gentle Souls of our Forbears (Danquah, Dombo and Busia) provide useful guidance and inspiration from the Spirit World to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as he makes a case to the NPP Delegates and its rank and file from tomorrow.”
His post comes as the former Vice President is expected to file his nomination today, Thursday, August 28, 2025, to contest in the NPP presidential primary scheduled for January 2026.
According to the former National Lottery Authority (NLA) boss, although the task ahead of Dr. Bawumia is challenging, he remains optimistic about a successful outcome.
“The Journey won’t be easy, but I am confident it shall end in praise,” Mr. Awuku acknowledged, publicly declaring his support, “I stand with Bawumia.”
He also called for a respectful and constructive internal campaign as a key symbol for unity and togetherness to the party’s comeback in the next general elections.
“Let’s extol the values and virtues of our preferred candidate and let the campaign be devoid of acrimony, antagonism, and insults for the sake of the NPP’s future,” he noted.
Sammi Awuku further prayed for God’s guidance to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.
“…for this and many more I pray,” he added.
