Midfielder Salim Adams converted a late penalty to secure a hard-earned 1-1 draw for Medeama SC against Bechem United in an absorbing Ghana Premier League clash at Nana Gyeabour Park on Saturday.
Medeama dominated possession for long stretches and fashioned the clearer opportunities, but it was the home side that struck first.
Veteran forward Augustine Okrah finished off a swift counter-attack in the 69th minute, meeting a precise cross from Yaw Annor with a clinical touch to give Bechem United the lead. His celebrations were short-lived, however, as he was booked for removing his shirt.
The visitors had already shown their attacking intent before falling behind. Adams came close with a trademark free-kick that forced a sharp save from goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning, while Kingsley Braye saw a goal-bound effort dramatically cleared off the line during a quick break.
Medeama’s persistence eventually paid off in the closing stages. A foul on Prince Owusu inside the box handed the visitors a lifeline, and Adams kept his composure to slot home from the spot and restore parity.
The result lifts Bechem United to seventh on the table with 37 points, though they remain 13 points adrift of the leaders as the campaign approaches its decisive phase.
Bechem United will next take on Hohoe United, while Medeama turn their attention to a high-profile home clash against Asante Kotoko on Matchday 29.
