A mobile money (MoMo) vendor is in critical condition after being shot during a robbery attack at Agona Mankron Junction in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
According to information gathered by Adom News, six heavily armed men stormed the community and carried out a series of coordinated robberies, targeting mobile money vendors, shops, drivers and commuters.
The suspects reportedly robbed three MoMo vendors of undisclosed sums of money.
They also attempted to attack a filling station, but workers managed to flee before the robbers could carry out their plan.
An eyewitness, Kojo Assan, told Adom News that residents were alerted after reports emerged that armed robbers had invaded the town and were attacking MoMo vendors, businesses, motorists and passers-by.
He said the suspects later moved towards Kwanyarko, where they mounted a roadblock on the Bawjiase–Swedru Road and robbed commuters at gunpoint.
“The whole town was thrown into panic. People were running in different directions. Some fled into nearby bushes, while others hid in the cemetery because of the continuous gunfire,” he recounted.
The attack has left residents living in fear, with many calling on the Ghana Police Service to strengthen security in the area.
They appealed to the police to arrest the perpetrators, restore calm and protect lives and property.
The injured MoMo vendor is receiving treatment at a health facility, while police are expected to launch investigations into the incident.
