Residents of Agogo Russia, Apetenyinase, in the Asante Akyem North Municipality, have raised strong objections to the ongoing construction of a fuel filling station in their community, citing health and safety concerns.
According to them, the project poses a serious threat to their lives due to its close proximity to residential homes.

They fear that the station’s location could lead to potential fire outbreaks, given the regular domestic use of fire in the area.
In an interview with Adom News, retired Dr. Felix Owusu, a resident of the community, described the development as a major public safety risk.
He explained that fuel stations are not meant to be sited in residential areas and warned that continued construction could endanger lives.
“The construction of this station has serious health and safety implications. It’s too close to people’s homes, and we use fire daily for cooking. This is dangerous and must stop,” he said.

The residents have therefore appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to intervene immediately and halt the construction.
Some community members also referenced recent fire incidents at fuel stations across the country, stressing that they will strongly resist the project to prevent a similar tragedy in their area.
