Recruitment into Ghana Armed Forces will be merit-based, not for cash – Defence Minister

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness in the recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to him, enlistment will be strictly merit-based and not influenced by money or political connections.

He made the statement during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior at his office in Accra.

Dr. Boamah noted that the Ministry is determined to uphold the integrity of the armed forces through fair and open recruitment procedures.

“I emphasised that enlistment and recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces will be strictly merit-based and not for sale. We are committed to transparency and fairness in our recruitment process,” he posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, July 3.

The meeting, led by James Agalga, Chair of the Committee, focused on the Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen national security and tackle challenges facing the security sector.

Dr. Boamah briefed the committee on ongoing initiatives and reiterated the urgent need for modern platforms and equipment for the armed forces to address emerging threats, especially in volatile areas.

Members of the Committee commended the Ministry for its dedication and pledged Parliament’s continued support.

“The committee expressed their support for the Ministry’s work and assured us of Parliament’s commitment to advocating and providing the necessary support towards maintaining national security,” Dr. Boamah added.

He concluded with a call for collaborative efforts, saying, “Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Ghana.”
