The Chief Operating Officer of Etranzact Ghana Limited, George Babafemi, has blamed the recent spate of robberies in the country on the continuous use of cash transactions.
Mr. Babafemi who spoke to adomonline in an exclusive interview lamented the unfortunate incidence that led to a loss of precious life of a man who was going about his daily assignment.
The Lebanese, Ahmed Safiadeen, aged 54, who is a cashier at Delta Agro Company, had gone to withdraw the amount from the bank as salaries for workers and other factory expenses of the company.

He was of the opinion that the incidence may have possibly been avoided if alternative payment method was used such as direct bank transfer, transfer to mobile wallet, prepaid cards etc.
It is in the light of these that he advised the general public especially the institutions who still engage in table-top wages payment to seek advice from experts such as their bankers, fintech, ghipss etc for enlightenment about electronic payment options available at the moment in the industry.

According to him, apart from the traditional option of using bank accounts to pay salaries, there are other options such the use of multiple mobile wallet accounts or other advanced applications.
Prior to the Tema incident, another gang of robbers had stormed the Royal Motors offices at Industrial Area in Accra and made away with about Gh¢500,000 on Tuesday.
A bullion van was said to be coming for the company’s sales before the robbery but Mr. Babafemi says such old methods of engaging in monetary transactions are no longer unnecessary because of the risk associated with them.

“For a company that deals in motor vehicles, customers could be made to make payments into the company’s account and submit pay-in slips to make the transaction cashless”, he noted.
“Customers can also pay in cheque, use mobile money or pay online to avoid the amount of money that need to be carted away that will require bullion van because in some other countries, companies that use bullion vans are charged”, he added.
