Rainy season: Road Safety Authority cautions drivers

As the rainy season sets in, the National Road Safety Authority is cautioning drivers to exercise heightened vigilance, particularly in mountainous areas where fog may reduce visibility.

Speaking to Adom News, the Authority’s Public Relations Officer, Pearl Adusu, advised motorists to take specific safety measures to reduce the risk of accidents during this period.

She stressed the importance of ensuring that all vehicle lighting systems—especially white and yellow lights—are functioning properly to aid visibility in foggy or rainy conditions.

Pearl also urged drivers to avoid speeding, noting that reduced visibility makes it harder to react to sudden obstacles or changes on the road.

In addition, she recommended that drivers observe the three-second rule—maintaining a safe following distance behind the vehicle in front—to allow ample time for braking and emergency maneuvers.

“If drivers adhere to these guidelines, they can significantly improve road safety during the rainy season, protecting both themselves and pedestrians,” she said.
