A rainstorm system developing over neighbouring Togo is expected to trigger widespread thunderstorms across parts of Ghana later today, with several major cities likely to be affected.
According to the latest weather outlook, much of the country will experience periods of sunshine and cloudy conditions during the afternoon. However, from late afternoon into the night, rain-bearing clouds are expected to intensify across the coastal, middle, and transition zones, leading to thunderstorms of varying intensity.
Cities expected to be impacted include Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Axim, Ho, Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kumasi, Obuasi, Tarkwa, Sefwi Bekwai, Kete Krachi, Kintampo, Goaso, Sunyani, and Techiman. Aflao, due to its proximity to Togo, may experience early storm activity.
The northern sector is also expected to record isolated thunderstorms and rainfall in some areas.
Meteorological projections indicate a 40 to 70 percent probability of thunderstorms across affected regions, with possible heavy downpours, lightning, and occasional strong winds.
Despite the expected storms, the state of the sea is expected to remain calm.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone areas, and avoid open spaces during thunderstorms.
