The Queen Mother of Assin Awusem, Nana Dwamena Akoto III, has called on women to take an active role in protecting young girls from teenage pregnancy—a challenge affecting Assin Awusem and its surrounding communities.

Speaking during a Mother’s Day event organized by the Assemblyman for Assin Asaman, Gregory Ankomah Gyekye, Nana Dwamena emphasized the importance of mothers serving as positive role models for their daughters.

She stressed that good parenting and proper guidance are essential to curbing the rising cases of teenage pregnancy.

The event, which aimed to honor and celebrate the invaluable contributions of mothers, saw 100 women receive gifts including cloth, food items, and cash in appreciation of their dedication and sacrifices.

Assemblyman Gregory Ankomah Gyekye explained that the initiative was meant to reward the hard work of mothers and promote family values within the community.

Mother’s Day is globally recognized as a time to appreciate mothers and maternal figures, with different countries observing the celebration on varying dates throughout the year.
