A former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Professor Seidu Alidu, has emerged as the winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Tamale Central Constituency.
He obtained 840 votes, defeating 11 other aspirants in the election held on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
Out of the 1,511 ballots cast, only one was rejected.
His closest rival, Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tamale, secured 526 votes.
The outcome of the contest gives Prof. Alidu the NDC’s parliamentary ticket, positioning him as the replacement for the late Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in the August 6 helicopter crash along with seven others.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has withdrawn from the by-election to be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, stating no candidate will be field.
