Prioritise child health in development agenda – Eastern Health Director

The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Damien Punguyire, has called on citizens, stakeholders, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to place child health at the forefront of development priorities.

He stressed the need for a unified approach to tackling issues affecting children, noting that investments in healthy nutrition, mental health support, vaccinations, and physical activity would help nurture capable future leaders.

Dr. Punguyire made the appeal at a ceremony at Oda Government Hospital in the Birim Central Municipality, where the Awosohene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Nana Kwasi Sasu IV, and his wife, Ohenewere Ofosu Amoah, handed over renovated children’s and maternity wards to the facility.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Dr. Punguyire said child health must remain a shared responsibility among all sectors of society.

For his part, Nana Kwasi Sasu IV explained that the renovation was aimed at providing a more conducive environment for patients. He urged nurses to treat patients with dignity, respect, and empathy to support their recovery, while also emphasising the need to uphold patients’ rights at all times.
