Founder of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah said the 22 people who perished after a galamsey pit they were working in caved in at Nsuta in the Western Region died out of their disobedience.
According to him, God decided to punish the illegal miners for destroying the water bodies he created.
Some 19  illegal miners were trapped in a 80-meter-deep mining pit at Nsuta in the Prestea Huni Valley district of the Western Region after a heavy downpour which resulted in the collapse of the illegal mining pit.
However, five out of the 19 galamseyers managed to escape but effort by the police and rescue team to save the rest proved futile.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu sanctioned the closure of the Nsuta galamsey site for days to retrieve the rest of the bodies proved futile.
But Rev. Owusu Bempah is convinced the miners are to blame for their demise.
He could not fathom why they will still engage in galamsey when government has placed a ban on the illegal activity which has destroyed the natural resources of the country.
The renowned prophet said: “I don’t think God wants people to do galamsey to destroy the water bodies he created. It is disobedience that landed them in the pit. Nana Addo and Chiefs have warned them yet they didn’t obey. If you think you will go ahead to do it then I don’t think God will protect you…” he said on Accra based Okay FM.
Nevertheless, the Prophet Owusu Bempah cautioned others to heed to the words of President Akufo-Addo to desist from the illegal activity.
“They should listen to President Akufo-Addo. It is just like a driver who is over speeding his limit, accident will surely happen. It should serve as an advice to others…”
