Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo, has promised a cash reward of $1,000 for every goal Hearts of Oak scores in the upcoming 2025 President’s Cup clash against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.
The much-anticipated encounter is set for Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
During a visit to the team at the Kpobiman Sports Complex, Minister Ocloo made the pledge in a rousing address to the players, revealing her motivation came from reports of a similar financial promise made in Kumasi.
“The people from Kumasi are bragging, saying that for every goal scored, they will be given 200 dollars,” she said.
“For Greater Accra, the mayor and the MCE, every goal scored, you will be given 1000 dollars.
“People are coming from the States to watch. If you don’t beat Kotoko, we are dead.
“Every goal you score against Kotoko, we will give you $1,000.”
She went on to emphasize the high expectations placed on the Phobians ahead of the national fixture, noting the attention the match has attracted both locally and internationally.
“The entire country, even people from the States, are coming for the event, and I am sure you have seen how we made a lot of noise. So if you don’t score, you have killed us.”
Minister Ocloo urged the team to rise to the occasion and deliver a performance worthy of the hype surrounding the fixture, which celebrates Ghana’s football heritage and national unity.
