President John Dramani Mahama has invited key civil society organisations (CSOs) to Jubilee House for a high-level dialogue on the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The meeting, set for Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 noon, will bring together government officials and CSO leaders to explore sustainable solutions to the environmental and social damage caused by the practice.
In a letter signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the Presidency explained that the engagement is intended to provide “a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between government and civil society, with a view to harnessing collective expertise and perspectives to address this national challenge.”
The dialogue comes amid growing public concern over the destruction of water bodies, forest reserves, and farmlands, as pressure mounts on the government to take decisive action against galamsey.
