The Chairman of the Asante South Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Seth Tetteh Odonkor, has urged Ghanaian youth to avoid illegal mining (galamsey) and instead pursue skills training for a sustainable and promising future.
Speaking at a ceremony to elevate the Dompoase Presbyterian Church in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region to District status, Rev. Odonkor emphasized the importance of building a purposeful life rooted in hard work and discipline.
He encouraged the youth to seek alternative livelihoods that will not only benefit them personally but also protect the environment and promote community development.
Rev. Odonkor also called on Christians to actively spread the gospel, referencing Christ’s instruction to His followers before His ascension.
He highlighted the need to decentralize church operations by forming smaller groups to make pastoral work more effective and personal.
The newly elevated Dompoase District will oversee 14 outstations, having been carved out of the Tutuka District.
In his address, Adansi Dompoasehene, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, reminded congregants that living a Christlike life means avoiding gossip and embracing truthfulness.
Rev. Francis Ofori Atta, the newly appointed Dompoase District Minister, also emphasized the Church’s responsibility to reach out to surrounding communities with the gospel.
He expressed concern about the growing tendency among the youth to prioritize money over faith, urging them to seek God first in all things.
The elevation of the Dompoase congregation to District status marks a significant milestone in the Church’s growth and outreach efforts in the Asante South Presbytery.
