Residents of Atwima Yabi and surrounding communities in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region are appealing for urgent intervention as persistent mobile network challenges continue to disrupt daily life.
The affected areas include Akosobo, Apaasi and Asomaya, where residents say poor or non-existent network coverage has become a long-standing problem.
According to them, making or receiving phone calls is nearly impossible unless they travel to a nearby school park, which has become the only location with relatively stable signal.
The network challenges, residents say, are affecting economic activities, communication with family members and access to essential services.
Traders and farmers explained that they often miss business opportunities because customers and partners are unable to reach them.
More worrying, residents noted that the situation poses serious risks during emergencies. They said contacting health workers, ambulances or security services is extremely difficult, especially at night, leaving vulnerable residents exposed in critical situations.
Assembly Member for the Yabi-Akosobo electoral area, Solomon Owusu Antwi, confirmed the problem and said he has made several efforts to get network operators and relevant authorities to address the situation. According to him, all attempts so far have failed to yield results.
He described the situation as unacceptable and called on telecommunications companies, the National Communications Authority and other stakeholders to urgently extend reliable network coverage to the affected communities.
Residents are hopeful that the appeal will attract the attention of authorities and lead to lasting solutions, as they say improved mobile connectivity is crucial for development, safety and access to basic services in the area.
