Police retrieve stolen items as suspect is arrested over burglary at Spintex

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with a housebreaking and stealing incident at Spintex in Accra, leading to the retrieval of large sums of money and several items believed to be stolen.

According to a police statement, the case was reported by a resident who returned home from work around 4:00 p.m. on March 4, 2026, only to discover that her residence had been broken into.

The victim informed the police that cash totaling GH¢1,000 and $22,350, along with other valuable personal belongings, had been taken from the house.

Following investigations and intelligence-led operations, police arrested the suspect, Daniel Odai Afotey, at Labone Beach on March 11, 2026.

A search conducted in his room later resulted in the recovery of the stolen cash and other valuables. Officers also retrieved additional items suspected to have been stolen, including gold watches, jewellery, mobile phones and a television set.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in the crime and disclosed that he had an accomplice known only as “Ewonam,” who is currently on the run.

Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the second suspect.

Meanwhile, Daniel Odai Afotey is expected to appear before court on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The police have also begun processes to identify the rightful owners of the other recovered items. Members of the public who may have lost property under similar circumstances in Spintex, Teshie, Nungua and nearby communities have been urged to contact the CID Headquarters to assist with identification.
