Police in the Western Central Region have restored calm in Benso following an incident at the Forestry Division office that left a young man hospitalised and sparked tension within the community.

The victim, identified as Nana Junior, is alleged to have been assaulted during a confrontation linked to the parking of a motorcycle at the entrance of the Forestry Division office.

The incident has generated concern among residents, who are demanding answers over the circumstances that led to the young man’s injuries.

Speaking to Adom News, Benso youth leader, Wofa Atobrah, said Nana Junior had parked his motorcycle at the entrance of the Forestry Division office while he went to purchase food nearby.

According to him, the area is often crowded in the evenings, with traders and residents conducting business around the facility, making the entrance a common parking location.

Wofa Atobrah alleged that upon arriving at the office, Forestry Division personnel repeatedly sounded their vehicle horns to have the motorcycle removed.

He claimed that when no one responded, the officers moved the motorcycle into the office premises, during which the bike was allegedly damaged.

The situation is said to have escalated into a confrontation, resulting in Nana Junior sustaining injuries and being taken to hospital for treatment.

Some elderly women in the community expressed shock over the incident, describing Nana Junior as a respectful and well-known young man.

They said the development had left many residents saddened and called for a full investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Issah Salifu Taylor, visited the community following the incident.

He appealed to residents to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to investigate the matter.

The MP also pledged to assist Nana Junior with his medical expenses as investigations continue.

Police have since intervened to maintain law and order in the community while efforts are made to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
