A police officer stationed at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters, G/CPL Stephen Eyram—who also serves as the Odikro of Have-Akleme under the stool name Togbe Kitiki V—has handed over a newly built 11-seater toilet and bath facility to residents of Have-Akleme in the Afadzato South District.

The project represents a major milestone in the community’s efforts to improve sanitation and public health.

The brief but colourful ceremony drew traditional leaders, community elders, youth groups, and residents, all of whom expressed deep appreciation for the officer’s initiative. Funded through G/CPL Eyram’s personal resources, with support from a few benevolent partners, the facility is expected to ease long-standing sanitation challenges in the area.

Speaking at the event, G/CPL Eyram, widely praised for his philanthropic leadership, explained that the project was inspired by his commitment to community development and the desire to restore dignity to residents.

“Good sanitation is a basic necessity, not a privilege,” he said. “Seeing the challenges my brothers and sisters faced here compelled me to step in. This facility belongs to the community, and I hope it will be well maintained for generations to come.”

The Paramount Queen Mother of the Have Traditional Council, Mamaga Tsyrawaa IV, alongside other elders, commended the officer for his exemplary service. They noted that inadequate toilet facilities had posed health risks for years, particularly for children and the elderly.

A representative of the traditional authorities added, “This is more than a building; it is a solution to a long-standing problem. We are grateful and hope this inspires others to support the development of Have-Akleme.”

Health officials present emphasized that the new facility will significantly reduce open defecation, promote better hygiene practices, and improve overall public health outcomes.

Residents expressed joy and relief, noting that the facility brings much-needed convenience, cleanliness, and renewed pride to the community.

The toilet complex is expected to become fully operational immediately, with local committees overseeing maintenance and ensuring proper usage.
