The Western North Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for a woman accused of abusing her 12-year-old daughter with a copper wire at Sefwi Abrabra in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.
The suspect, identified as Diana Kwarteng, believed to be in her late thirties, reportedly assaulted her daughter after the child failed to account for the full proceeds from plantain sales.
The 12-year-old had used GHS 10 from the GHS 30 in sales to buy food for herself and her younger brother, prompting the alleged punishment.
The child suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital for immediate medical attention.
In a media briefing, DCOP Francis Tsidi, the Western North Regional Police Commander, said the suspect fled the scene following the incident. He confirmed that the police are actively searching for her and commended her brother, Peter Kwarteng, for reporting the case to the authorities.
“The suspect has not been arrested yet, but a manhunt is underway,” DCOP Tsidi stated, urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to come forward.
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that efforts will continue until the suspect is brought to justice.
