The Atebubu Divisional Police Command has begun a full-scale investigation into the tragic killing of the Atebubu Abamba Hemaa, Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma Kyere, popularly known as Ohemaa’s Kitchen.
The queen mother was shot dead on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, shortly after closing from work in Atebubu, an incident that has left residents shocked and grieving.
Confirming the development in an interview with Adom News reporter Jagri Boaz Binyinjom, the Atebubu Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kwaku Bempah, stated that the command has activated a comprehensive investigative process to track down those responsible for the fatal shooting.
“We have secured the crime scene and commenced intensive investigations. Our priority is to identify and arrest the person or persons behind this heinous act,” ACP Bempah said.
He explained that investigators are currently gathering evidence and engaging relevant individuals to assist with the probe, while cautioning against speculation and the mention of unverified names.
“This is a very serious matter. It is a murder case, and we cannot just mention names as we speak. Investigations are ongoing, and we are working professionally to ensure that justice is served,” ACP Bempah stressed.
The Police Commander emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and called on the public to actively support law enforcement efforts.
“Policing is a shared responsibility. We are appealing to residents to volunteer any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. If you see something, say something,” he urged.
He further encouraged community members to report individuals engaged in suspicious or criminal activities in their homes and neighborhoods.
“We must all help to eradicate criminals from our society. If there are people engaging in criminal acts within your homes or communities, report them to the police,” he added.
Addressing concerns about safety following the incident, ACP Bempah assured residents that the situation is under control, noting that security in the area has been significantly strengthened.
“There is increased police presence in town. Our officers and investigators are on the ground and within the community. Residents should feel free to go about their daily activities without fear,” he said.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the late queen mother and restoring calm in the municipality.
“The Atebubu Divisional Police Command is fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted. We will leave no stone unturned in this investigation,” ACP Bempah stated.
The killing of Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma Kyere has sparked widespread concern in Atebubu and beyond, with residents calling for swift justice as investigations continue.
