Police Ladies cruise past Halifax Queens in Women’s Premier League opener

-

Police Ladies launched their 2025 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title defence in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 4–1 victory over Halifax Queens on the opening weekend.

The champions stamped their authority early, striking twice in the first half before adding two more goals after the restart.

Halifax Queens pulled one back, but the gulf in quality and cohesion was evident as Police Ladies controlled the contest from start to finish.

Head coach Yussif Basigi expressed confidence that his side has what it takes to retain the crown.

“We’re well-prepared and remain confident of winning the league title again this season,” he said after the match.

His opposite number conceded that the newcomers struggled to cope with the league holders.

“Police Ladies are very experienced. Ideally, this shouldn’t have been our first game of the campaign, but we’ll take the lessons and return stronger,” the Halifax Queens coach stated.

The convincing win sets an early marker for the season, with Police Ladies determined to keep their grip on the league and reinforce their stature in Ghana’s women’s football.
