The Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit has launched investigations into a robbery targeting a delivery rider at Tantra Hill, Accra, which occurred on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
According to the police, the rider was delivering food from an eatery in Achimota to a location in Tantra Hill when he was attacked by two men on a motorbike. One of the suspects, armed with a machete, struck the rider on the back with the blunt side of the weapon and threatened to kill him if he resisted.
The assailants forcibly took the rider’s motorbike and a Samsung A05 mobile phone. The victim sustained injuries to his left hand and later reported the incident to the police.
Following swift intelligence-led investigations, authorities arrested 29-year-old Akwesi Atanzumi on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Agbogbloshie, where he was attempting to sell the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, Atanzumi admitted his involvement in the robbery and identified an accomplice known only as Shadrach, who is currently at large.
The stolen motorbike has been recovered and is being held as evidence, while police continue efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 23, Accra Regional Police Public Affairs Head, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, assured the public of the police’s commitment to combating violent crime and protecting residents, particularly delivery riders who are often targeted. She urged the public to report suspicious activities and advised riders to take extra precautions to safeguard themselves and their belongings.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to arrest the remaining suspect and determine whether the individuals are linked to other criminal activities.
