The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a robbery attempt targeting a gold consignment valued at over GHC 1.3 million, arresting three suspects believed to be behind the plot.
The suspects, identified as Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey, were apprehended on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation along the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe road.
According to police sources, the operation began on Wednesday, June 25, after intelligence indicated that a driver working for a gold dealer and a man posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled delivery the following day.
On the day of the operation, Kenneth Khartey was arrested near Akuapem–Mamfe while trailing the gold-carrying Land Cruiser on a motorbike.
Subsequently, Zibo and Yussif were arrested at East Legon in an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects had acquired firearms, motorbikes, and a getaway vehicle in preparation for the robbery. They had also allegedly arranged to sell the stolen gold after executing the plan.
Fortunately, the gold dealer was rescued unharmed, and the entire gold consignment—estimated at 1.2 kilograms and worth GHC 1,350,343.53—was recovered by law enforcement.
The three suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Police say they will be arraigned before court as investigations continue.
