Police Council must push for adequate resources to combat crime – Jaman South MP

-

The Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd), has urged the newly reconstituted Police Council to prioritize investments and equip the Ghana Police Service with the tools needed to combat crime effectively.

The retired military officer stressed that for Ghana to bring perpetrators to justice, law enforcement must focus on proactive criminal investigations supported by skilled personnel and adequate resources.

“We cannot solve crimes—especially murders—without trained investigators and modern tools, even if the police are not present when the crime occurs,” he said.

Col. Damoah also expressed concern over the growing number of unresolved murder cases and called on the government to invest in evidence collection. He proposed that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers be deployed to live within communities for extended periods to enhance intelligence gathering and community trust.

He cautioned that without such strategic measures, the country will continue to struggle in identifying suspects and delivering timely justice.

Additionally, the MP appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, to review and enhance current crime-fighting strategies to improve public safety across the country.
