The Ghana Police Service has recovered weapons, ammunition, and clothing items believed to be connected to the recent gold shop robbery at Mpohor in the Western Region.
According to the Police, the recovery was made during intensified anti-robbery patrols by officers from the Kuntanase District in the Ashanti Region.
Officers reportedly intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road. Two men standing near the vehicle fled into the bush upon seeing the patrol team.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, additional packets of ammunition, cowrie shells, a Huawei smartphone, identity documents, and clothing items.
The Police said a comparison of the recovered items with CCTV footage from the Mpohor robbery revealed a striking resemblance between the seized hooded tops and wellington boots and those worn by the suspects during the attack.
Describing the discovery as a significant step in the ongoing investigation, the Police commended the Kuntanase District patrol team for their dedication to duty.
Meanwhile, the Police indicated that its investigation team is continuing to examine the other exhibits and follow leads, with security operations intensified nationwide to track down and arrest the suspects.
