The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced that the Ghana Police Service has completed security assessments at all voting centres for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer elections, except for Bawku.

Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony by the five NPP flagbearer aspirants, the IGP said additional military support would be required in the Bawku enclave due to prevailing security concerns.

“The Police Service has formally written to the Minister for the Interior to liaise with the Minister of Defence to ensure military assistance during the exercise in Bawku,” he stated.

He assured that aside from Bawku, the police are fully prepared to provide adequate security across all other voting centres to guarantee a peaceful and orderly election.

The peace pact ceremony also featured remarks from NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who urged the candidates to prioritise party unity.

He noted that even the eventual flagbearer would need the support of fellow party members to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

All five aspirants signed the pact as part of efforts to prevent internal tensions and promote cohesion within the party ahead of the primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
