Police assure WASSCE candidates of their safety in Nkwanta South

In a proactive effort to ensure the safety and well-being of students, police in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have engaged with candidates preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The initiative follows recent conflicts in the area that have raised concerns among students and their families about security during this critical examination period.

During a visit to the school, Adom News correspondent Obrempongba K. Owusu observed a heavy military presence while classes were in session.

The Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Michael Asiedu, addressed candidates at Nkwanta Senior High School (SHS) and stressed the importance of a peaceful environment for successful exam completion.

“We understand that the recent unrest may have caused anxiety among you and your parents. I want to assure you that your safety is our top priority,” he stated.

He outlined several measures being implemented to ensure a secure atmosphere, including increased police presence and regular patrols within the community.

Beyond the security measures, the police also encouraged students to report any suspicious activities or threats they may encounter.

Chief Superintendent Asiedu emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and security, urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant and supportive during this crucial time.

He encouraged candidates to focus on their studies and assured them that they are protected as they prepare for their examinations.

In an interview with Adom News, the headmaster of Nkwanta SHS, Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, commended the police and military for their continued support and intervention. He underscored the need for a secure learning environment for candidates who are under immense pressure ahead of their exams.

According to him, over 625 candidates from Nkwanta SHS, Nkwanta Community SHTS, and Kyabobo Girls SHS have resumed academic activities after weeks of school closures due to the ongoing conflict in the area.

He also urged students to exhibit good behavior, warning that authorities will not tolerate any violations of rules and regulations during this period.
