The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has arrested three individuals for stealing sardines from a cargo truck involved in an accident on the Accra–Kumasi highway at Kwahu Fodua in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The fully loaded container truck, with registration number AA 119CY, was travelling from Accra to Kumasi with a driver and his mate on board when it overturned, blocking traffic in both directions.
Although investigations are ongoing, preliminary reports indicate that the driver swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road, causing the vehicle to tip over.
The accident attracted a crowd of residents and passersby. While some helped in efforts to tow the truck and clear the road, three individuals were caught stealing sardines from the overturned container and were subsequently handed over to the police.
The driver and his mate have been admitted to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for treatment.
