Police arrest ten suspects for operating fake online food delivery platforms

The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested ten individuals for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.

The first six suspects, Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah, were picked up during a targeted operation on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope, following weeks of intelligence gathering.

According to police investigations, the suspects created fraudulent websites and social media pages impersonating popular food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.

Customers who placed orders through these fake platforms were instructed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food.

In some cases, the suspects reportedly gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money and bank accounts under the guise of assisting them with payments, withdrawing funds without their consent.

Several digital devices used in the fraudulent operations were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the syndicate’s leader, Elijah Sotama Etse, alias “Pop Smoke,” along with three accomplices, Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, from their hideout at Haatso in Accra on October 12, 2025. Twelve mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects.

All ten suspects are in police custody and are expected to be arraigned today, Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the scam to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
