The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery attack on a member of the Council of State along the Tamale–Buipe highway last year.
The suspects — Rashida Yussif, Aaron Abaana, Wilson Abasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, Aminu Zibrilla, Innusa Sumaila and Haruna Safianu — were arrested on January 11, 2026.
Briefing the media at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 29, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said investigations into the case are ongoing.
According to her, the robbery occurred on July 21, 2025, when the victim was travelling along the Tamale–Buipe highway and was attacked by six armed men.
“The suspects attacked the victim and made away with mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, laptops and other personal effects,” COP Donkor stated.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the Police also arrested five suspects in connection with another robbery incident at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region.
The suspects — Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe, also known as Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman and Bukari Sule, also known as Taylor — were arrested on different dates following investigations into a robbery that occurred on December 2, 2025.
COP Donkor explained that the suspects and their accomplices allegedly blocked the Goaso–Tepa road while armed and robbed road users.
She urged the public to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal safety, adding that the Police Service remains committed to intensifying operations to curb criminal activities across the country.
