Police arrest man over inciting comments threatening peace in Bawku

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man accused of making inciting comments that could threaten public peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities.

The suspect, identified as Raphael Azare Kariyama, was arrested through an intelligence-led operation aimed at monitoring and preventing the spread of content that promotes violence or undermines public order and national security.

In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday, January 31, the police said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace in areas experiencing heightened tension.

“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect for making inciting comments that could jeopardise peace in Bawku and surrounding communities,” the statement said.

According to the police, Mr. Kariyama is currently in custody and will be arraigned before court to face the law.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement added.

The CID further disclosed that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to arrest other persons connected to the case.

The Ghana Police Service has also cautioned the public to refrain from making, publishing, or sharing comments that could inflame tensions, stressing that such actions undermine peace and national security.
