The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, has announced that all arrangements are finalized for the Akwatia by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
“The Commission is ready for tomorrow. Today, what is left is packaging, and then at dawn, we set out to distribute our materials to all 119 polling stations. Voting kicks off at 7 a.m. at all stations. We are ready and poised to deliver tomorrow,” he said.
In an interview on Monday, September 1, Bano-Bioh explained that the Ghana Police Service has pledged maximum security to ensure a smooth and incident-free voting exercise.
“Security is the responsibility of the police. They have assured us, in the presence of all contesting political parties, that they will give their best. Everyone was concerned about what happened in Ablekuma North, but they have assured us such incidents are behind us, and all measures are being put in place to ensure a peaceful election,” he stated.
He further encouraged political parties to ensure they have all official documents ready to avoid confusion at the polls.
“If political parties are well-organized, they can even compile their figures. What they arrive at should match the collation officer’s results. There is no room for secrecy; everything is transparent. We also involve political parties at all levels of the process,” he added.
Voting will take place across 119 polling stations in the constituency.
The Akwatia by-election will be a straight contest between Bernard B. Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Solomon Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
