PNP petitions EOCO over GH₵78m allocation to Office of Government Communication

The People’s National Party (PNP) has petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate what it describes as an “unprecedented” budgetary allocation of GH₵78 million to the Office of Government Communication, headed by Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye.

In a petition addressed to EOCO’s Executive Director, Raymond Acher, on Monday, September 8, the PNP raised concerns over transparency and prudent use of public funds. The party argued that the office, which is not a ministry, has received more resources than the Ministry of Information, which previously supervised six agencies.

The petition questioned which agencies are currently under Mr. Ofosu Kwakye’s oversight, their previous operational budgets, and how the new funds will be utilised.

It further alleged that portions of the allocation could be diverted to select media houses, civil society groups, and individuals to advance the ruling NDC’s political interests.

PNP Leader Janet Asana Nabla urged EOCO to demand a detailed financial breakdown, verify the status of agencies under the office, and publish its findings to ensure accountability.

“In these difficult economic times, when public institutions remain under-resourced, such opaque allocations must be subjected to strict scrutiny,” the petition stressed.
