The penultimate round of the 2024-25 Premier League season features two potential thrillers, as Chelsea host Manchester United, and Newcastle United visit Arsenal.

Chelsea and United will meet at Stamford Bridge for a Friday night match on the 16th of May. While the visiting Red Devils have nothing in particular to play for, as their Premier League season has been a write off for months now, the Blues are looking to secure the best possible finish and a European club place for the next campaign.
When the teams last met at Stamford Bridge, in April 2024, they played out an incredible seven-goal thriller in which Cole Palmer scored two late goals to take Chelsea to a miraculous 4-3 triumph.
Palmer has had his struggles, especially in the second half of this season, but he will be hungry to revive those memories when United visit West London on Friday night: “To win like that, there is nothing better. We thought when we scored the second goal the fans lifted us and I saw the gaffer say there were two minutes left and thankfully I scored,” said the mercurial attacker.
Another important clash in regards to European club places is the one pitting Arsenal against Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening. The Magpies have established a strong sense of dominance over the Gunners this season, winning all three meetings of the teams (1-0 in a Premier League match in November 2024, as well as two 2-0 wins in the two-legged semifinal of the Carabao Cup in February 2025), and a fourth straight triumph would take Eddie Howe’s men to the verge of qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Other key matches in the race for European football are Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United v Nottingham Forest, while Liverpool will continue their ‘title celebration tour’ with a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday evening.
“[It is] unreal because you work so hard for this moment to happen and when it then does happen, it needs some time for you to truly feel it. But the fans were so happy that it didn’t take us long, didn’t take me long to understand what we’ve achieved together this season,” said Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
In addition, on Tuesday 20 May, FA Cup finalists Manchester City and Crystal Palace will play their home catch-up matches against Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.
