The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has condemned the assault on a pharmacist and a female client at a pharmacy in Burma Camp, Accra, following a viral video showing a soldier attacking them.
In a statement signed by its President, Pharm. Paul Owusu Donkor, the Society described the act as “barbaric, reprehensible, and utterly unacceptable.” It stressed that such violence against healthcare professionals endangers public safety and undermines respect for the profession.
The assault, allegedly carried out by Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Armed Forces, has sparked widespread public outrage after the video circulated on social media.
PSGH officials have visited the victims at Pride Chemist, assuring them of the Society’s full support and commitment to ensuring justice. The Society also called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure the perpetrator faces appropriate sanctions.
“Community pharmacy personnel are front-line healthcare providers who serve the public diligently, and any form of assault against them is an attack on public health,” the statement read.
The PSGH reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and dignity of healthcare professionals and urged all stakeholders to ensure that healthcare spaces remain safe and respected zones of service to humanity.
