New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Paul Afoko has pledged to place grassroots members at the centre of the party’s operations if elected National Chairman.
Mr Afoko made the commitment on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when he filed his nomination to contest the NPP’s National Chairmanship election at the party headquarters in Accra.
Addressing party members and delegates, Mr Afoko said polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency officers, women organisers, TESCON members and other grassroots activists were the backbone of the party and must receive greater recognition.
“You cannot be important only during election campaigns. You are the Party,” he said.
He promised to transform the national headquarters into a centre that serves the grassroots rather than an institution that operates above them.
According to him, rebuilding trust between the party’s national leadership and constituency structures would be a key priority under his chairmanship.
Mr Afoko also appealed to Ghanaians outside the NPP to continue monitoring the party’s activities, stressing that the party must earn the confidence of the electorate before seeking another mandate to govern.
He said the NPP must demonstrate its ability to put its own affairs in order, listen to Ghanaians, renew itself and present credible ideas before asking voters to return it to power.
“Before we ask Ghanaians to entrust the national house to us again, we must demonstrate that we are capable of putting our own house in order,” he said.
Mr Afoko said his bid for the National Chairmanship was not about personal ambition but about rebuilding the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He promised that if elected, he would serve all members of the NPP regardless of their factional, regional or generational affiliations.
“I will not be Chairman for one faction. I will not be Chairman for one candidate. I will not be Chairman for one region. I will not be Chairman for one generation. I will be Chairman for every member of the New Patriotic Party,” he declared.
He further called for an end to internal divisions and urged party members to stop treating fellow NPP members as political enemies.
“Our fight is not against ourselves. Our mission is bigger. Our responsibility is greater. And our country is waiting,” he said.
Mr Afoko outlined his campaign vision under three broad objectives: reuniting the party, reorganising its structures and recapturing political power in 2028.
He said the NPP must strengthen its constituencies, support its presidential candidate with a formidable political organisation and present itself to Ghanaians as a credible alternative.
He ended his address with a call for unity, declaring that “No Afoko faction. No regional faction. No candidate’s faction. One Party. One family. One purpose. One united NPP.”
