Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, has met with fellow national executive hopefuls in Jamasi, Ashanti Region.
Mr. Afoko, who is seeking to reclaim the NPP National Chairmanship, visited the town to console Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff under President John Agyekum Kufuor, following the passing of his mother, Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso.
Also present at the gathering were several prominent figures vying for the same position, including former National Organiser John Boadu, diplomat Edward Akwasi Boateng, former Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
Mr. Afoko was also seen exchanging pleasantries with former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Though held during a period of mourning, the meeting provided an opportunity for interaction among key party figures. Mr. Afoko engaged his fellow aspirants and party executives, emphasizing the importance of unity and cohesion within the party.
Observers noted a relaxed atmosphere, with aspirants conversing freely and sharing light moments, a sign many described as a positive indication of renewed harmony within the NPP.
The group also joined other mourners in paying their respects to Mr. Mpiani and his family. The late Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso, who died at the age of 103, had been laid to rest at the family residence following a requiem Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jamasi. She gave birth to Mr. Mpiani at the age of 18.
