A pastor has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly publishing a prophecy on TikTok about the assassination of popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale.

Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh, also known as D.Y. Donkoh, was charged with the publication of false news. He pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Basit, granted him bail in the sum of GHC20,000 with three sureties, one to be justified. He is to report to the police every two weeks.

The case has been adjourned to August 27, 2025, for a Case Management Conference.

Arguing for bail, Donkoh’s counsel said the accused is a family man with four children and a known resident who founded a church at Israel, Tabora in Accra. The counsel noted that Donkoh had cooperated with the police and posed no risk of interfering with investigations.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye told the court that the complainant, Charles Nii Armah Junior, popularly known as Shatta Wale, is a musician and businessman residing in East Legon, Accra.

On July 21, 2025, Shatta Wale’s Public Relations Manager, Samuel Baah Atuobi, also known as Sammy Flex, reported to the police that a day earlier, the team had come across a TikTok video in which Donkoh claimed he had seen a vision of Shatta Wale being assassinated by three armed men.

The prosecution said the viral video left Shatta Wale traumatised and living in fear.

Police attempts to contact Donkoh were initially unsuccessful. However, on July 25, 2025, the police received intelligence that some angry fans of Shatta Wale were planning to storm Donkoh’s church at Tabora Alhaji in protest.

To prevent any disturbance, officers proceeded to the church and invited Donkoh for questioning.

“During investigations, the accused stated that he posted the video on his TikTok page regarding the alleged assassination to get the complainant’s attention,” the prosecution added.
