The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) today, Thursday, June 12.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to resolve the week-long strike by nurses and midwives, which has significantly disrupted healthcare delivery across the country.
Member of the Committee and MP for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Beyuo, disclosed this during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
Prof. Beyuo, a former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), reiterated that the Mahama-led government remains committed to the welfare of nurses and midwives.
He, however, appealed to the striking health professionals to reconsider their action, citing the severe consequences for patients and the general public.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Health has called on retired health professionals to volunteer their services as a stopgap measure to ease pressure on the healthcare system while negotiations with the GRNMA continue.
