The Parliament of Ghana has referred the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025 to the appropriate parliamentary committees for consideration and a subsequent report to the plenary.

The Bill, widely known as the anti-gay bill, generated intense public debate in the 8th Parliament but was not assented to before the end of that parliamentary term.

Although the Majority had maintained that the legislation was transmitted to the Presidency for assent, the House was required to reintroduce it as it lapsed upon the expiration of the previous Parliament.

The renewed Bill is being spearheaded by John Ntim Fordjour alongside nine other Members of Parliament, including the Minister for Communication, Samuel George.

Presenting the Bill, Mr Ntim Fordjour outlined its key objectives and criticised the government for what he described as a lack of commitment towards its passage.

However, the Majority Leader rejected the claim and provided clarification on the government’s current position regarding the legislation.

The committees are expected to review the Bill and submit their report to the House for further debate and consideration.
