The Executive Director of the Obaapa Development Foundation has called on parents and families to show greater compassion and responsibility toward premature babies, urging them not to abandon such children or blame mothers for early births.
She made the appeal during a donation exercise at the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region.
Every year on November 17, the world observes World Prematurity Day to raise awareness, educate the public, and promote support for babies born before the normal gestation period.
Speaking to Adom News after meeting with NICU doctors and presenting items to the facility, the Executive Director emphasized the need for families to show love, patience, and special care for premature babies.

“We must end the stigma. In the past, mothers were blamed and children were labeled, but that thinking is outdated. Premature babies are just like any other child—important, capable, and full of potential when given proper care,” she said.
She also encouraged community members, local leaders, and policymakers to create supportive environments for mothers and children facing prematurity.

The Dodowahene, Okukrubuor Nene Tei Kwesi Agyemang V, together with the Acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Alexander Adjei, expressed profound appreciation to the Foundation for its continuous support.
“This support is timely and deeply appreciated. Our premature babies need constant care, and donations like this help us give them a better chance at survival,” Dr. Adjei said.
The Dodowahene also appealed for sustained assistance to improve neonatal care in the district.
“We are grateful for this gesture and encourage more organisations and individuals to support our NICU. These babies deserve every opportunity to live and thrive,” he added.
