Over 100 Obuasi residents to benefit from free plastic surgery

More than 100 people living with deformities in Obuasi are set to undergo free plastic surgery through an initiative by the Galaxy Foundation.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, David Hagan, revealed this during a medical screening and preparation exercise for beneficiaries at Pomposo in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Adom News’ Isaac K. Normanyo, Mr. Hagan disclosed that although over 500 people applied, financial constraints meant the Foundation could only support 100 beneficiaries at a total cost of GH¢400,000.

He noted that the Foundation has already supported more than 700 individuals in similar interventions over the years, stressing that the goal is to restore dignity and inclusion for those who often feel neglected and isolated.

A medical practitioner involved in the project urged the public, especially teachers, parents, and community members, not to stigmatize persons with deformities, reminding them that such conditions are not the fault of the victims.

One of the selected beneficiaries shared her ordeal of years of stigma and exclusion, expressing hope that the surgery would finally give her a chance to live without discrimination.
